Building Brands: Messaging framework

Developing a messaging framework with brand narrative, a manifesto and video script to support the Building Brands rebrand.

Building Brands is a southwest marketing conference and events company with a growing community of professionals across all marketing disciplines. It exists to connect marketers and help them learn, network, and develop their careers – all within a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment where people feel free to be themselves.

They’d outgrown their brand, and wanted something fresh, bold and authentically ‘them’. Owen Jones and his team at Upshot led on the visual identity and brand value development, and brought me in to develop a messaging framework, a brand narrative, a manifesto and promotional video script. As the project developed, I also wrote copy for conference merchandise and stickers.

I was pretty pleased with this line, I won’t lie…

I’ve been a delegate and a speaker at previous Building Brands conferences, so I was already familiar with the brand. But it was interviewing the founder, Dave Briggs, that brought to life how he goes above and beyond to make each and every person through the door feel valued, welcome and special. Nothing makes Dave happier than genuinely helping people. I wanted to reflect that in the verbal identity, along with the fun and expertise that his teammates, Jon Payne, Maret Reutelingsperger and Chris Bentley, brought to the party.

The fresh new look has been rolled out, along with an incredible new website courtesy of the talented Upshot team, and a slick promotional video created by Tannery Creative.
