Breast Cancer UK: Brand copywriting, voice, narrative and supporting messaging.
Breast Cancer UK is a formidable charity on a mission to reduce the number of preventable breast cancer cases through education, campaigning and research.
They were looking to rebrand, and approached Think! Associates to help them build a more distinctive and bold identity. They were getting confused with similar cancer charities, finding it hard to articulate what makes them different, and they wanted to move from reactive donations to proactive support. As part of this work, Think’s director Dora Aston invited me onto the creative team as an associate to develop a more distinctive verbal identity.
It’s often the case that a rebrand project focuses on the look and feel of a brand, but what’s less acknowledged is that the words you use are absolutely fundamental to a cohesive, consistent and confident brand. The end result of giving equal attention to your verbal and visual identity is a more comprehensive set of brand guidelines that become an invaluable resource for anyone who’s representing the brand.
Together with Dora, I co-hosted a brand strategy workshop where we got under the surface of Breast Cancer UK, teasing out what made the team and their mission so unique. As Dora got to work on designing a fresh new look and feel for the charity, I got on with developing the brand themes, voice, narrative and supporting messaging that would help them champion their cancer prevention movement.
This all came together in a brand book that will equip Breast Cancer UK to drive their mission forward with confidence as they continue to roll the new branding out.
I really enjoy collaborating with design and branding agencies to help deliver a complete branding service that prioritises words alongside visuals. This project was a real pleasure to work on, especially as I believe wholeheartedly in what they want to achieve, and their ability to do it.
